Colt 1911 4.25 Commander
The legendary Colt 1911 has always been a favorite since the first M1911 was introduced for military use in the years following World War II. The original was heavy so a lightweight, pistol chambered in 9mm was in heavy demand. The 1911 Commander was the answer to this demand, originally released in the 1950’s. With a 4.25 inch barrel, this pistol became more compact and in the recent years has continued to receive modern innovations, features, and improvements on the already legendary concept.
The Commander features a 4.25 inch barrel, with an overall length of 7.75 inches—which translates to 0.75 inches shorter than a full size 1911. This makes the Commander a great option for concealed carry, especially in our quality Colt 1911 4.25 inch concealed carry holsters. The pistol also has a dual-recoil spring that makes shooting either the chambered 9mm or .45 ACP tamer than you might think. Reviewer rave that the 9mm, in particular, “already kick[s] politely anyway, but seem even more tamed with the Dual Spring Recoil System.”
Colt’s 1911 4.25 Commander comes with three different safety features. First, the classic thumb safety which can allow for cocked and locked if you’re a shooter that likes to carry that way. Second, it comes with an upswept beavertail grip safety. Finally, it has a firing pin safety as well. Regardless of how you prefer to carry the Commander in a 1911 Kydex holster, its reliability and devotion to safety is second to none.
Colt also released a Lightweight Commander in 2016 which introduced the Dual Spring Recoil System. The Commander comes in Blued carbon steel frame and slide or in Stainless steel. Its three-hole aluminum trigger has a 4.5-6lbs pull and Novak white dot front sight with Novak Low Mount Carry rear sights. Browse our concealment holsters for 1911 above.
