Springfield Armory 1911 EMP 3-inch
In 2007, Springfield Armory decided they should take innovation by the horns and fine-tune a classic—the EMP. The EMP is their answer to “What can be improved on a 1911, specifically a compact?” As they state: “The EMP changes what a compact 1911 can be.” In 9mm, this pistol lacks nothing the full size options have to offer, as well. The action on the EMP is 1/8 inch shorter than the original 1911. What this means for the shooter is: the shorter grip radius provides a comfortable shooting experience; controllability; and reliability—which are crucial to in concealed carry, especially in a pistol. This pistol also has a 1.12 inch Thinline Cross Cannon Double Diamond Cocobolo grip that provides excellent control. Overall, the dimensions of the EMP is one of the smallest 1911s: 5 inches in height, 1.12 inches wide, and overall, 6.6 inches long.
It comes with low profile three-dot tritium sights to prevent snagging on clothes, and a match grade fully supported ramped barrel. The EMP comes with three 9-round capacity magazines with slam pads. The frame is forged aluminum alloy, with an anodized black hardcoat. The slide is forged stainless steel with a satin finish (or blued depending on which option you choose).
This pistol is also available in .40 S&W with an 8-round capacity, if you’re looking to add a different caliber than 9mm. Although this pistol is not chambered in .45, the 9mm provides enough punch to rival the .45—and the control in the EMP makes felt-recoil almost nothing.
No matter which caliber you choose for concealed carry, you wont be disappointed with this compact 1911.
