FN Five-seveN MKII
Originally, the FN Five-seveN (FN 5.7) series was strictly restricted to military use and law enforcement agencies, until 2004 when it was offered to civilian shooters.
But why 5.7x28mm cartridges?
Well, NATO requested a replacement round to the 9mm cartridge, which has been the standard in military pistols and submachine guns around the world. It is lighter than 9mm, by half, which allows the 5.7x28mm to be carried more easily (and perhaps in greater quantity). The round itself also produces approximately 30% less recoil than 9mm, as well, which improves controllability. If you’re a fan of FNH, then you already know about the penetration capabilities of the 5.7x28mm (with military grade powders), which we won’t get into here.
Then FN 5.7 MK2 was introduced in 2013, replacing the USG model. The MK2 has forward cocking serration, all black controls, and slightly different iron sights than the FN 5.7, but are fully adjustable. It also has a new one-piece metal slide whereas previous models have two-piece wielded slides.
Reportedly, the FN 5.7 MK2 has a slightly wider frame than previous models, so it is imperative to get Kydex FN 5.7 MK2 holsters for concealed carry that fit your pistol perfectly—as holsters that fit other FN 5.7’s won’t fit the MK2. However, if you’re looking for a high-capacity and lightweight pistol, look no further. The MK2 comes with three 20-round capacity magazines and the pistol itself weighs 23 ounces.
The safety on the MK2 is ambidextrous, and the magazine release is also reversable. A Picatinny rail is integrated into the polymer frame (rail specs: MIL-STD-1913) which can hold your favorite tactical accessories. The grips provide excellent control under many conditions, but with the lower recoil of the 5.7x28mm cartridge, felt-recoil is significantly lower. Find the perfect FN 5.7 concealed holster here!
